Goggle Buying Guide

Some days it's bluebird skies, others it's a whiteout and you're wondering why you didn't stay in the lodge. The Smith Shakedown Goggles are built for all of it, delivering clear, fog-free vision from opening day right through to those glorious spring laps.

The semi-toric Compound lens gives you the best of both worlds, combining the low-profile feel and wide field of view of a cylindrical lens with the optical quality of a toric design. Add Smith's ChromaPop™ technology and you get vivid colours, enhanced contrast and better definition, helping you pick out the bumps, dips and changes in terrain ahead.

The low-profile QuickFit strap feels comfortable and sits neatly with your helmet, whether you prefer to wear it underneath or over the top. And with a bonus lens included, you're better equipped to adapt when the weather decides to change its mind halfway through the day.

Clear vision, punchy colour and the flexibility to ride in changing conditions. The Smith Shakedown Goggles are ready for pretty much whatever the mountain has planned.

Included Lenses

ChromaPop Sun Black - 12% VLT - Sunny

The perfect match for one-of-a-kind pure blue bird days, the gray base lens tint reduces glare and sun rays for optimal vision and performance.

*** Bonus Lens ***
Standard Yellow - 89% VLT - Very Low Light

For the darker days when the clouds won’t go away, this yellow base lens tint is ideal to make your vision clearer even on the darkest days.

VLT = Visible Light Transmission, the amount of light the lens lets through. Lower VLT rated lenses are good for bright, sunny days, whereas higher VLT rated lenses are best in cloudy or low light situations.

Frame Size; Large

Choosing the right ski goggle size is mainly about matching the goggle to your face size rather than your age. The guide below should help you find the right fit.

Goggle Size - Typical Fit - Comparable Helmet Size

Kids - Young children (approx. 3-8 years) - Kids XS-S
Teen / Youth - Older children and young teenagers (approx. 8-13 years) - Kids M or Adult Small
Small - Adults with smaller faces and many teenagers - Adult Small
Medium - Fits most adults - Adult Medium
Large - Adults with wider faces or those who prefer a larger field of view - Adult Large
X-Large / Oversized - Very large faces or riders wanting maximum peripheral vision - Adult Large-XL

Not sure which size to choose?

As a rough guide:

If you wear a Kids helmet, choose Kids goggles.
If you wear a Youth helmet, choose Youth goggles.
If you wear an Adult Small helmet, you'll usually fit either Youth, Small, or some Medium goggles.
If you wear an Adult Medium helmet, you'll usually fit Medium goggles.
If you wear an Adult Large or XL helmet, you'll generally be most comfortable in Large or Oversized goggles.

The best fit test

A correctly fitting goggle should:

✔ Sit comfortably against your face without pressure points.
✔ Seal evenly around your eyes with no gaps.
✔ Fit neatly against your helmet without leaving a large gap between the top of the goggle and the helmet.
✔ Provide a wide field of vision without touching your nose or cheeks.

Goggle Care

Look after your goggles and they will last a long time. Here are some tips on how to care for your goggles.

  • NEVER touch the inside surface of the lens, grease and oils on your skin damage the anti-fog coating. manufacturers add anti-fog coatings to the lens but if this coating gets damaged it won’t work. If you have a crash and get snow inside the goggle DO NOT wipe the lens, the snow crystals will scratch the surface of the lens and remove the anti-fog coating. Just shake the snow out.
  • Wearing – Don’t put the goggles on the top of your head. Goggles fog because of the difference in temperature between the inside and outside. The head is the hottest part of your body and heats up the inside of your goggle. They should either be on your face or off completely. Whenever you are not wearing your goggles put them in the bag supplied with the goggles. This will protect the lenses from getting scratched. There are also coatings on the outside of the lens, some are for anti-glare some are hydrophobic (helps moisture run off the surface), if you need to clean / wipe the outside of the lens make sure you shake any snow off and use a clean Microfibre cloth or turn the goggle bag inside out.
  • Drying – after a long day on the mountains the foam on the inside of the goggle will have gotten wet / sweaty, to dry them remove them from their goggle bad and leave them in a warm room to dry (do not apply heat to them as this can distort the lens and delaminate the lens layers).
  • Cleaning – Moisture from sweat and tears can build up on the inside of the lens. To clean this off run the lens under cold water and wipe with a microfibre cloth.
